Absolution
Posted on March 16th, 2010 21 commentsBelow is a statement from Bentley Jones regarding his work with Sonic Team;
It disappoints me to announce that the latest SEGA / Wave-Master releases relating to the Sonic series have proceeded without my consent, approval or notification. Specifically regarding the “True Colors” album, I wish to stress that I have not paid any direct contribution to its production at any point and is therefore not an accurate representation of my work. Furthermore; the music, vocals, production, engineering and my likeness(es) that appear on these albums do so without my permission, proper crediting and, in some instances, by breaching the copyrights of my work.
The royalties that I would normally be entitled to for any music that I have written have been denied, and so the only people who have been profiting from the exploitation of me and my music are SEGA.
The delay in issuing this statement has been due to legal investigations, and because of ongoing inquiries it may not be possible to comment on this area of my work through any medium: my sincerest apologies to the fans. Under protest, I will not list nor promote these albums as I do not consider them to be official additions to my discography.
I hope that my fans will understand and sympathise with this situation and I hope it will be resolved very soon.

Whoa. Didn’t expect this. I guess this explains the delay in announcing the winners of the video contest then.

Dude, that’s nuts. Hopefully, you can get it sorted out soon…you know you have friends on the inside. If they can help, here’s to it.
…and considering that SEGA/WAVEMASTER keep making these soundtrack/compilation albums and yet don’t make them readily available outside of Japan despite the franchise’s lack of popularity in that region…you get a few people importing them from Japan for the purpose of making them available for everyone outside of Japan to download. So even IF you got royalties for True Colors, it wouldn’t be that much you’d be getting anyway.

…I’m just speechless right now…
I’m sorry this happend to you Lee. Sega needs to seriously get thier act together. I’m with ya the whole way if anything does happen

Oh man, Im guessing this is why you never replied to when Tsuki or I asked about who made the remix. I am sorry and upset to hear this! It’s really unfair. Hope things get sorted out! You know we’re with you all the way!! ^^

Wow… this just took my breath away… I don’t believe that SEGA alone would do this, but I can completely imagine a Record Label (Such as Wave Master) doing it. I have read in the past that Record Labels have continued to distribute artists works without their consent and earned from it where the artist has made nothing. Same with remixing without consent.
This is true copyright theft. I hope you can make back what you lost to this! Your fans are with you!

Damn. Sorry to hear that, BJ. Not a tight situation at all. Hope it all works out for you – bad blood with SEGA would be a terrible thing to happen. All the best and rock on!

Oh my! This is terrible! I can’t believe SEGA would do such a thing! I hope all of this will get sorted out soon.

hope you get things sorted out soon

I feel sympathy too. SEGA has many problems now with other things too… I don’t know if you know about the rumour that one of the DeviantArtist’s picture got stolen by SEGA and was seen in Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. Luckily it got solved by now… So I hope this problem will be fixed too.
So I hope that this problem will have a solution soon as possible. ^^
Your music is great -not only the ones that I heard in the Sonic games, but the others too. Good luck in the future and take care.^.~// X
