The long journey that has led Bentley through his latest album’s production is almost at an end. “Defying Gravity” is available now from all online retailers as well as right here on BentleyJones.com.
Over 2 years in the making, this is Bentley’s biggest album to date encompassing the singles “Evolve” and “Nothing. Everything.” as well as the long awaited theme from Capcom’s “Devil May Cry 4”… a reworking of “新世紀エヴァンゲリオン” from “Neon Genesis Evangelion”… a co-write with Final Fantasy artist Frances Maya… music videos shot on location around Europe… his most elaborate album artwork to date… and his first ever CD+DVD release. With first run pre-orders selling out within 12 hours this could very well be Bentley’s most successful release to date.
In the early hours Bentley revealed his latest music video from the album for the track “Axiomatis”, which was created with his fans and even features some of them in the video.
Bentley is officially collaborating with UK-based Shrewsbury College and they are holding open auditions for dancers to participate in his next music video!
The collaboration formed after Bentley composed several pieces for the college’s forthcoming dance showcase. Bentley also performed alongside dance artist and choreographer Poppy Mansfield in the Birmingham Opera Company’s successful production of “Khovanskygate” this year. Inspiration from his recent dance experience has already been reflected in his new video for the single “Evolve”, a theme he wishes to continue with this next project.
“I wanted “Evolve” to be a performance piece to show people where I am right now,” explains Ben. “The next video “Nothing. Everything.” has a narrative which helps tell the song’s story. For “I Have Loved” I want to combine both – a performance piece that will tell the story of the song.”
“I am looking forward to collaborating with Bentley,” expresses Poppy. “I am interested in integrating various dance styles, questioning how a performer presents themselves and crafting all the bewildering space in between. ”
Ben and Poppy are looking for dancers of all ages, backgrounds and experience to perform a contemporary piece for the video shoot. Dancers must be flexible to attend several rehearsals held at Shrewsbury College as well as the video shoot itself. Dancers under 16 years old will need written permission and clearance to be filmed from their parent or guardian.
Auditions will be held on 28th May 2014 11.30am at Shrewsbury College (Performing Arts Block), London Road, Shrewsbury, SY2 6PR, UK. For more information and details please contact Poppy Mansfield – firstname.lastname@example.org.
[O_U user_role=”Subscriber,Administrator” blocked_message=”TS Content: Log into your TRUTHSt4lk3r account to view this post“]I have been rather busy this weekend, this time writing songs for other artists again! But more on that later. (~.^) Now that I have a few minutes I wanted to post this for the gallant TRUTHSt4lk3rz who have helped get so many views on the “Bandana-na-na” video (well done by the way!).
I wanted to strip some of the glamour from the video for “ICUCM”. With the original version being an EDM number it would have been easy to do a club or dance video. But the essence of the song is about unconditional love and acceptance of yourself and others, so I wanted to reflect that by having a broader range of characters to emphasise the universal message. And being a song so close to my heart, all the people in the video are my own friends and family!! (^^)
So here they are, in order of appearance…
It’s about time!! I’ve been dying to make this announcement and hopefully you’ll understand why it’s been so long in the delivery.
First, to get some unpleasantness out of the way; I have officially left my Japanese record label Sound Future and my manager Yutaka Kato. This decision was made due to multiple breaches of contract by the company – not just to me, but to several individuals. All enquiries regarding my work – past, present and future – should be channelled through myself directly. Any responses from anyone other than myself, my legal team or Remix Factory Music should not be considered authentic.
Thank you all for your love and support through this very stressful time. I offer my sincerest apologies as this situation has essentially halted my artist activities for the past 5 – 6 months. I can assure you; this is set to change immediately… (~.^)
Right now I’m discussing the possibility of joining a new label. But in the meantime, to get some new music to you as soon as possible I will be releasing 2 new singles + videos independently through Remix Factory Music. The first being a free download as a thank you for sticking by me these past few months. And the second single is potentially the lead song from a new studio album!
Also to look forward to is a compilation of my best remixes over the past 10 years. PHUNKSTAR 10th Anniversary Best Remixes Collection will be released very soon by the lovely folks at DMC. In addition I am in talks about presenting my own podcast show also hosted by DMC. This will coincide with the new brand of remixes – all of which I’ll elaborate on in the blog later.
As well as all this, I’ll be doing the usual composing and arranging with the Factory guys. I’ve already been working on some new projects recently so keep your eyes peeled for those!
My whole approach to my work will be undergoing some serious changes this year. The main priority being involving you guys much more in the production side of things. I feel I need to reconnect with you guys after such an eventful 12 months and this new album is the perfect opportunity.
So… what do ya think? Wanna make some music together? (~.^)
Thanks everyone for tuning in!! Sorry for the sound issues – hope I fixed them eventually!! xox
